With the "multicube rheinhessen", the full-service provider pfenning logistics has opened its second logistics center in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. The multicube follows the model of a multi-award-winning real estate concept.

Role model honored with sustainability award
The role model, the "multicube rhein-neckar" in Heddesheim (Baden-Württemberg), was awarded the platinum certificate by the German Sustainable Building Council in 2013. With the expansion at the new location, the Group has created additional capacity and for further growth. Investments were also made in logistics equipment and modern management systems.

In addition, 700 new employees have been hired in the past 12 months, 550 of them in the logistics area alone. "In a green Europe, logistics must fit into the landscape," said Karl-Martin Pfenning, Managing Partner of the Group, at the inauguration ceremony for the logistics center. "For logistics, green means taking responsibility for people and the environment as the third largest economic sector in our country."

Modular use possible
"With this concept, existing resources can be used more efficiently by flexibly adapting capacity," explains Pfenning. The logistics center, located in the border triangle of Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate, is designed as a multi-user center. It consists of several adjoining halls with a total storage area of 63,000 square meters, which can be used and adapted as individual modules. For example, temperature-sensitive foodstuffs for Edeka Foodservice can be stored in one hall, while orders for the online retail of consumer products for the customer Cybex, a manufacturer of juvenile products, are picked and prepared for dispatch just one door away.
