Intersport France, in partnership with TGW Logistics, has opened a new national fulfillment center in Saint-Vulbas, near Lyon. The highly automated logistics center went into operation on schedule and is designed to speed up deliveries to the 980 French stores and meet the growing demands of omnichannel business.

At the heart of the facility is the FlashPick “goods-to-person” system, featuring a ten-aisle shuttle warehouse with more than 80,000 storage bins. The solution is complemented by 18 ergonomic picking stations as well as automated processes in receiving and shipping. There, robots handle both the assembly of storage pallets and the palletizing of shipping orders. The three AutoStax robots achieve a throughput of up to 1,500 cartons per hour. The system was designed to accommodate future expansions and to respond flexibly to changes in consumer behavior or adjustments to the omnichannel strategy.

“After 20 weeks, we’ve already exceeded our goals: order preparation productivity has increased eightfold, and palletizing productivity has quadrupled,” emphasizes Frédéric Grassart, Director of Logistics at Intersport France. With this new facility, Intersport is continuing its partnership with TGW Logistics following a previously successful project in Austria.
