Retrofit: Gebhardt Boosts Plant Performance at Zschimmer & Schwarz

The Gebhardt Intralogistics Group is modernizing the existing pallet conveyor system in Zschimmer & Schwarz’s high-bay warehouse at its headquarters in Lahnstein.

As part of the retrofit project, the conveyor system and seven pallet stacker cranes will be replaced across three levels. In addition, the conveyor system will be replaced at two other facilities.

The Zschimmer & Schwarz Group, an internationally active family-owned company, develops and manufactures specialty chemicals and chemical additives for various industries. Through this project, the company aims to sustainably increase performance and plant availability, secure the long-term supply of replacement parts, and further optimize logistics processes to ensure the reliable transport of chemical raw materials.

The implementation will take place in stages while operations continue, so as not to disrupt delivery capabilities or production processes. The retrofit concept calls for retaining existing interfaces and structural elements and modernizing them in a targeted manner. In addition to mechanical optimizations, the control technology will also be upgraded: A PLC-based solution will be directly connected to the existing SAP system and seamlessly integrated into the IT landscape.
