TGW Logistics Begins Operations at New Production Facility
TGW Logistics has commissioned a new production facility and a highly automated warehouse system at its headquarters in Marchtrenk. In total, the intralogistics specialist is investing 150 million euros in the expansion of its headquarters.
With the commissioning of a 16,000 m² production hall and an automated warehouse system, TGW Logistics is continuing the expansion of its headquarters in Marchtrenk. Since the groundbreaking in the fall of 2024, a new manufacturing facility and a warehouse with a total of 60,000 storage locations have been built. Further investments in the expansion of the office building are planned through early 2028.
The new production facility consolidates manufacturing and logistics operations that were previously spread across multiple locations. This shortens transport routes and makes production processes more efficient. “With the facility now operational, we can take our performance in manufacturing and in the global supply of spare parts to our customers to a whole new level,” emphasizes Henry Puhl, Chief Executive Officer of TGW Logistics. “This is a key prerequisite for achieving our planned growth. Our record order intake of 1.5 billion euros will allow us to reach full capacity quickly.”
At the heart of the new facility is an automated storage system featuring a high-bay warehouse for 11,000 pallets and a shuttle warehouse with 49,000 container storage locations. Mobile robots handle material transport to the picking and assembly workstations, while the WERX software controls all processes. The 32-meter-high warehouse was constructed using a silo design, in which the racking structure also serves as the building’s load-bearing framework.
Manufacturing of Conveyor Systems for Containers and Cartons
At its Wels facility, TGW Logistics will focus in the future on the production of conveyor systems for containers and cartons. All other intralogistics modules, such as shuttle robots, stacker cranes, pallet conveyor systems, and control cabinets, will be manufactured in Marchtrenk going forward.
Sustainability considerations also played a key role in the expansion. A 7,200 m² photovoltaic system with an annual output of 1.2 GWh is expected to fully cover the production facility’s energy needs under optimal conditions. Heat pumps, a geothermal probe field, and an automatic nighttime ventilation system round out the energy concept.
