Fiege commissions photovoltaic plant in Barleben

The Fiege Group has put a PV system into operation on the roof of its multi-user center in Barleben. The installation with a total output of 2,750 kilowatt peak is not only intended to supply the site, which is specially designed for the pharmaceutical industry, with green energy, but also to feed the surplus electricity into the public grid. Around 7,000 PV modules have been in operation on around 30,000 square meters of the roof area since June.

"Photovoltaic systems are one of the biggest levers for a successful energy transition. Thanks to their extensive roof surfaces, our logistics centers offer great potential for generating green electricity", says Mareike Tenkleve, Project Manager at Fiege Real Estate. "We can use the electricity produced to cover our energy requirements on site and operate our site in Barleben independently at times. We feed surplus electricity into the public grid." Furthermore, Fiege is also looking into making the electricity available for long-term use at other branches via offsite power purchase agreements (PPA).

LED lighting, heat pumps and intelligent charging infrastructure

In addition to the PV system, the building is equipped with efficient LED lighting, VRV air heat pumps and intelligent charging infrastructure. This means that the logistics center meets the platinum standard of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Kai Alfermann, Managing Director of the Fiege Real Estate business unit, explains: "Developing energy-efficient real estate is a central component of our sustainability strategy and a matter of course for us. In this context, we are continuously working on turning our logistics centers into small solar power plants. We are looking forward to another new PV system that will allow us to continue along this path and make our flagship project in Barleben even more sustainable."
