Logistics service provider
Fiege builds new logistics center in Hesse
The Fiege Group began construction work on its new logistics center in Hessisch Lichtenau in October. The property, which is scheduled for completion in autumn 2026, will have almost 52,000 square meters of logistics space spread across five bays as well as additional office and social areas.
The construction project is being realized by Fiege Real Estate. As the anchor customer of the logistics center, Falken Tyre Europe GmbH, European subsidiary of the Japanese tire manufacturer Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. (SRI), is continuing its expansion course in Europe from its location in the middle of Germany.
Fiege is aiming for gold certification (2023 version) from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) for the logistics center. The new location will have resource-saving mineral wool insulation and LED lighting. Air-to-air heat pumps will take care of the heating. Most of the electricity will be generated by a photovoltaic system on the roof, which will provide a total output of 3,000 kilowatt peak. In addition, an automated building management system and monitoring tools ensure that the logistics center's energy consumption is optimized and a site-specific biodiversity concept has been developed.
Stephan Stenger, Head of Supply Chain & Operations at Falken Tyre Europe GmbH, says: "With the new location in Hessisch Lichtenau, we are consistently continuing our expansion course. The location is another important milestone in our Europe-wide logistics strategy and the basis for further expanding our logistics. Last but not least, it underlines the strength of our partnership with Fiege, which has lasted for more than 15 years."
Christian Thiemann, Managing Director of Fiege's Tires business unit, explains: "We are very grateful for the trust placed in us by our long-standing customer Falken and are delighted that we can continue to write our joint success story and expand our future location in Hessisch Lichtenau. Thanks to its good location and connection to the A44, the new logistics center fits perfectly into our existing network of locations and will help us as a service provider to offer Falken even more efficient, flexible and scalable logistics solutions."
