"Logistics must fit into the landscape"

With the "multicube rheinhessen", pfenning logistics has opened the second logistics center in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, which follows the example of a multi-award-winning real estate concept.

In a green Europe, logistics must fit into the landscape," said Karl-Martin Pfenning, Managing Partner of the Group, at the inauguration ceremony for the logistics center. "For logistics, green means taking responsibility for people and the environment as the third largest economic sector in our country." Following the "multicube rhein-neckar" in Heddesheim (Baden-Württemberg), which was already awarded the platinum certificate by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) in 2013, the logistics company is also aiming for the best award for industrial buildings in Europe for its second multicube, which was built using modular hall construction.

Designed as a multi-user center
The new building meets the highest standards in terms of flexible usage options and environmentally friendly technology. The project is already a success for the municipality of Monsheim. "Existing resources can be used more efficiently with this concept thanks to flexible capacity adjustments," explains Pfenning. Located in the border triangle of Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate, the building was planned and constructed in just 18 months and is designed as a multi-user center. It consists of several seamlessly connected halls with a total storage area of 63,000 square meters, which can be flexibly used and adapted by customers as individual modules. For example, temperature-sensitive foodstuffs for Edeka Foodservice can be stored in one hall, while orders for the online retail of consumer products for the customer Cybex are picked and prepared for dispatch just one door away.

Well positioned for a shared future
pfenning logistics has invested 50 million euros in the planning and construction of the multicube rheinhessen. The good cooperation between Pfenning and Cybex is expressly emphasized. Both companies fit together in terms of size and culture and are constantly working on optimizing processes and workflows. "Cybex will continue to grow in Europe, and with Pfenning we have a good partner at our side to realize this," explained Kai Weisskopf, Managing Director of Cybex in Germany.

With the expansion at the new site, the Heddesheim-based group of companies has created additional capacity and efficient structures for further growth. Investments were also made in logistics equipment and modern management systems. The Group has also grown in terms of personnel: 700 new employees have been recruited in the past twelve months, 550 of them in the logistics sector alone. Nationwide, pfenning logistics currently employs 3,700 people at 90 locations. This is partly due to the expansion of the service portfolio. Over the last few years, the group has developed into a full-service provider that offers personnel and mobility solutions in addition to its contract logistics activities. In addition, the service group offers a wide range of value-added services for companies in industry and commerce, from plant security and metal construction to real estate development.
