Chief Development Officer Harald Ludanek moves from Scania to Volkswagen

Hanover/Wolfsburg, 09.02.2016 - Dr. Harald Ludanek (57), previously Board Member for Research and Technical Development at Scania CV AB (Södertälje, Sweden), is to become the new Board Member for Development at the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand. Ludanek succeeds Hans-Joachim Rothenpieler (58), who will take over as Head of Quality Assurance in the Volkswagen Group with effect from February 15.

Dr. Eckhard Scholz, Chairman of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand: "We are delighted that we have once again been able to recruit an experienced expert for this area of the Board of Management in Dr. Harald Ludanek. He will be responsible for the further development of our brand, our models and the associated strategic automotive topics of the future. These include electromobility, autonomous driving and intelligent networking of means of transportation."

Dr. Harald Ludanek holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering and has been with the Group since 1992. He began his career at Volkswagen in research for special drives and transmission technology. Among other things, he was responsible for Group development management. From 2002 to 2007, Ludanek was Head of Technical Development at Škoda as a member of the Board of Management. He then took over overall vehicle development and test engineering at Volkswagen. In 2012, he became Board Member for Research and Technical Development at Scania CV AB in Sweden.

Ludanek succeeds Hans-Joachim Rothenpieler, who has been responsible for the Development division as a member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand since July 2014.

Scholz thanked Rothenpieler on behalf of the Board of Management for his work at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles: "Hans-Joachim Rothenpieler has done an outstanding job of positioning Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles with top products. During his time as Board Member for Development, both the sixth generation of the T-series and the new Caddy were successfully launched on the road with extensive technical innovations."

Hans-Joachim Rothenpieler holds a degree in mechanical engineering and joined the Group in 1986. Since 1994, he has held various management positions in development for the Škoda, Bentley and Volkswagen Passenger Cars brands. In 2007, he took over as Head of Quality Assurance at Volkswagen AG. In 2010, he was appointed Spokesman of the Board of Management and Managing Director Technology at Volkswagen Sachsen GmbH. In 2014, he became Chief Development Officer of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand. red
