Commitment to greater sustainability
Contargo strengthens e-truck fleet with 33 tractor units
Contargo has put 33 new battery-electric DAF XD Electric trucks into operation and has now reached a milestone in the decarbonization of its fleet with 90 e-trucks.
Contargo has taken delivery of 33 DAF XD Electric battery-powered tractor units and is now deploying them at 15 locations in Germany. This brings the container logistics company's fleet of e-trucks to a total of 90 vehicles. At the same time, all of the truck projects promised as part of the KsNI funding have been implemented, while the expansion of the charging infrastructure continues to progress.
The new vehicles have 350 kW electric motors and lithium iron phosphate batteries. "The conscious decision in favor of this technology means: no cobalt, no nickel, a long service life and full charging capability - a clear commitment to greater sustainability for the batteries too," says Kristin Kahl, Managing Director of Contargo Truck Fleet. Christoph Fitz, Managing Director of DAF Trucks Germany, adds: "We are delighted that Contargo is continuing on the path we started with us seven years ago and is now integrating the new series of our electric trucks into the fleet in the second phase of the collaboration."
The e-trucks are mainly used in local transport for container transportation in combined transport. "The fact that 90 e-trucks are on the road for Contargo today is no coincidence, but the result of a clear strategic decision," Kahl continues. "The path we have taken is clear: the further development of our fleet is consistently geared towards electrification."
86 of the 90 vehicles and the associated charging infrastructure were funded via the KsNI guideline of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs.
