Safe with just one sensor
Leuze is launching the world's first safety barcode positioning system on the market: With the FBPS 600i, a single device is all that is needed for position detection.
Whereas system manufacturers previously had to rely on two sensors and two different technologies for position detection, this is now easier: the new FBPS 600i safety barcode positioning system from Leuze makes it possible to reliably detect the position with just one sensor. The FBPS 600i is connected to a safe evaluation unit via two SSI interfaces and is suitable for applications up to performance level e.
The following applies in intralogistics: storage and retrieval machines and transfer cars must not endanger employees. Positions and speeds must be monitored during maintenance work or when operating with an occupied car, for example. Until now, system manufacturers have had to rely on a redundant setup with two sensors in order to achieve performance level d. With the new FBPS 600i safety barcode positioning system, a single sensor, which also meets the requirements for performance level e, is all that is needed. This allows safety functions to be implemented. The connection is made via two SSI interfaces to a safe connection unit, for example to a frequency inverter. The FBPS 600i also saves space in the system and reduces installation costs.
The FBPS 600i has an error response time of ten milliseconds. This makes it particularly suitable for detecting the position during fast movements. Important parameters such as speed curves and handling performance can thus be optimized. The sensor's large operating range of 50 to 170 millimetres also enables flexible integration into different systems.
The new safety barcode positioning system is installed on the storage and retrieval machine or cross transfer carriage. A barcode tape is attached to the opposite shelf. When developing the FBPS 600i, the Sensor People at Leuze attached great importance to maximum reliability: With each scan, the FBPS 600i reads several codes from the tape, from which the software determines highly accurate position values. Due to the angled path of the scanning beam and the movement of the trolley, the sensor scans the code at different points. This avoids reading errors caused by local soiling or damage. The self-adhesive barcode tape, which is optimized for industrial use, also contributes to smooth operation: It is UV-resistant, hard-wearing and mechanically resilient. The printed position values are also legible and simplify handling.
The mounting concept with quick-change device enables the FBPS 600i to be mounted easily. The device can be securely fastened using an easily accessible screw on the clamp bracket.
