New logistics center
Metzger Autoteile cooperates with Kardex Mlog
Metzger Autoteile has commissioned Kardex Mlog as general contractor to build an automated five-aisle high-bay warehouse with around 6,000 pallet spaces and an AutoStore system with around 80,000 boxes. The large-scale project also includes a conveyor system for pallets and containers, several picking workstations and the complete control of the entire system using the Kardex Control Center warehouse management system.
The software will not only manage the new system parts, but also replace the existing inventory system. Kardex Mlog developed the concept for the new logistics center together with Metzger Autoteile. With around 200 employees, the company is already one of the largest employers in Filderstadt. With the expansion on a site area of around 10,000 square meters, Metzger Autoteile is creating additional capacity for further growth. The new logistics center at the Filder-Airport site in Filderstadt is scheduled for completion by September 2026.
Werner Metzger GmbH has been operating a logistics center in Filderstadt for around six years. It consists of a manual shelving system, a manual pallet warehouse and an AutoStore warehouse with around 30,000 bins from another provider.
Automated logistics solutions
Kardex Mlog's scope of supply includes five Kardex MSingle A-1000/15-ZT automated storage and retrieval machines and an in-house racking system for around 5,860 Euro pallets. Kardex will also build another AutoStore system for Werner Metzger GmbH. The grid with a capacity of 77,000 containers will be operated by 30 Redline R5 AutoStore robots. In addition, there will be an automatic container conveyor system with a total length of 160m. Kardex Mlog is also installing an automatic pallet conveyor system with 200 drives, two vertical pallet transfer units and six loading and eight unloading points. The scope of supply is supplemented by a pallet picking workstation for replenishment of the AutoStore system. The automated logistics systems are powered by a large-scale photovoltaic system with an output of 500 kWp on the roof of the new buildings.
In addition to the hardware, Kardex Mlog is supplying the complete software: The Kardex Control Center warehouse management system will manage and two-dimensionally visualize the new pallet high-bay warehouse, the expanded AutoStore system as well as several block storage systems, wide-aisle storage systems and shelving racking systems.
Focus on efficiency
"The new logistics center will enable us to organize the storage and delivery of our products even more efficiently," explain Marion Metzger and Isabel Brockmann-Metzger, Managing Directors of Werner Metzger GmbH. "We are thus creating the basis for continuing our sustainable growth and further strengthening our market position in the automotive aftermarket." The new logistics center is also impressive in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability. More than 1,000 square meters of the roof area will be greened.
