Storage media leverage savings potential
Save energy in AKL with supercaps
More and more operators are equipping their storage and retrieval machines (SRMs) in automated small parts warehouses with energy-saving capacitors as a storage medium. For SRMs in refrigerated warehouses, capacitor storage pays for itself quickly, as the energy is not converted into thermal energy as is usual with braking resistors and has to be compensated for with additional energy input from the refrigeration system.
In addition, the reduced peak currents on the supply side mean that both the supply lines and the transformer station can be smaller. In a bearing with supercaps, the RBG braking energy is temporarily stored directly in the drive for the next acceleration, so that grid power peaks are absorbed during acceleration. This reduces grid perturbations and improves the grid quality.
Infrastructure such as UPS and components such as control cabinets or fuses can also be designed smaller. Supercaps can be installed in both automated container warehouses and automated high-bay pallet warehouses.
