Hellmann and BusinessCode develop new tracking tool

The logistics service provider Hellmann Worldwide Logistics has launched a new tracking tool for sea freight together with the IT company BusinessCode. "Smart Ocean" is a monitoring system that is used in sea freight across all sectors and shows every container stop on the sea route in real time.

At the click of a mouse, the system provides an overview of the current location of the containers independently of the forwarder and is intended to make it possible to compare not only the performance of the forwarders, but also that of the various carriers. So instead of following the route of the goods on the track & trace pages of individual shipping companies, users of "Smart Ocean" can view the collected data in a single system. This increases transparency and enables more cost-efficient supply chain management. "Smart Ocean" thus creates end-to-end visibility without changing anything in the established delivery process.

Greater transparency
"As plannability and seamless reporting within the entire supply chain are increasingly expected in real time, it made sense for Hellmann to develop a user-friendly customer platform. Thanks to the increased transparency and the resulting optimized transport chains, the investment often pays for itself within just a few months," explains Product Manager Henning Pottharst, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics.

In addition to "Smart Ocean", which is used exclusively by sea, Hellmann offers the "Smart Visibility" tracking tool, which provides information on temperature, incidence of light and vibrations along the entire supply chain in addition to the current position of the shipment.
