NWL and DBR Hamburg cooperate in container handling

Norddeutsche Wasserweg Logistik (NWL) and Deutsche Binnenreederei (DBR) Hamburg have announced their official merger in the container business. The two companies, which have already been cooperating successfully on an order basis for several years, are underlining their long-term cooperation with this step on January 1, 2024 and are focusing on an even more intensive strategic partnership as Rhenus Partnership Hanse.

NWL, the market leader in container transportation by inland waterway vessel in Bremen and Bremerhaven, and DBR Hamburg, a specialist in the transportation of goods on inland waterways, have been working together on a contract basis as part of the Rhenus Group for many years.

Cooperation in container handling

The close cooperation to date has been very successful, so it was a logical step for both sides to formalize the partnership in the container handling sector and operate jointly in this area under the name Rhenus Partnership Hanse. There will be no changes to the existing employment relationships or the allocation of locations for the employees of both companies.

Synergies in the container segment

NWL has predominantly used the shipping services of partikulieren up to now. Thanks to the partnership with DBR Hamburg in the container segment, Rhenus Partnership Hanse is now achieving extended fleet utilization and more flexible capacity utilization. This contributes to synergies and increases operational efficiency.

Sharing know-how

By exchanging know-how, NWL and DBR are pooling their expertise and creating a solid basis for future joint projects. "We are delighted about this milestone in our cooperation and look forward to our joint future. At last, what has long belonged together is officially coming together and we are now offering first-class service from a single source," says Tim Böttcher, Managing Director of NWL Norddeutsche Wasserweg Logistik.
