Customized roll boxes for online retailers
A year ago, a large online retailer opened a modern logistics center in Dortmund on the site of the former Westfalenhütte. The increasing trade in large appliances and the entry into the online furniture business required new container solutions for handling the goods. The Roll-Box from Koch-Lagertechnik now serves as the basic model there.
As many items are also delivered on Euro pallets, the boxes had to be adapted for use in pallet racking. For this purpose, the swivel castors were fitted with a spring system that automatically turns the castors inwards when the box is lifted. This ensures that the wheels never come into contact with the rack support when stacking. The rack runners of the box were designed as stubs so that the appliance can also be picked up from the narrow side with an electric pallet truck and moved quickly over longer distances. U-profiles fitted under the base ensure that the forks of the forklift truck can be inserted centrally and also serve as a tilt protection.
However, as the boxes should not only be stackable on the shelf but also on the floor level without a shelf, they were additionally equipped with so-called "stacking claws", which made the model stackable three high. Due to strict safety requirements, further special equipment was also required: all four swivel castors were fitted with a "total stop" to prevent the boxes from rolling away uncontrollably during loading and unloading. The runners at the front are extended downwards with metal plates to prevent the boxes from being accidentally pushed too far backwards by the forklift truck when being stored in the racking.
The latter thus form a stop on the front shelf support. As standard, all units can be moved into each other in an L-shape to save space by folding up the underbody after unlocking it and swiveling the left-hand side section 270° to the rear. According to the company, the customer was very satisfied with the first batch of storage equipment and a follow-up order is already under discussion.
