Safe operation of logistics systems
At LogiMAT 2016, Telogs GmbH will be focusing on the topic of safe plant operation. According to the German Occupational Health and Safety Act, companies are obliged to ensure the health and safety of their employees in the workplace. This also includes the provision of

This means that the maintenance and servicing of automated logistics systems is mandatory, as the operator is liable for accidents caused by inadequate maintenance. But how does the system operator know, for example, whether the storage and retrieval machines are state of the art? What role does the revised Industrial Safety Regulation play and does it result in changes for the system operator? With effect from 01.06.2015, the previous Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health was replaced by a new ordinance. The new name is: "Ordinance on Safety and Health Protection in the Use of Work Equipment (Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health - BetrSichV)". The risk assessment (GBU) is the central element of the ordinance. Inspection and maintenance intervals must be determined independently on the basis of a risk analysis and with the help of the manufacturer's specifications. The requirements for risk assessment for work equipment have been significantly expanded and summarized in Section 2 BetrSichV:
- No system or work equipment may be provided or used without a risk assessment.
- The risk assessment must be prepared and documented before commissioning.
- The risk assessment must be drawn up and documented by competent persons.
- The risk assessment must be regularly reviewed and, if necessary, updated; this must be documented accordingly.
However, due to condensed inventories, extended operating hours and the increasing complexity of systems, it has become difficult for companies to carry out the necessary work themselves. One solution may be to outsource this area to a specialist service provider. "Our customers benefit from the fact that, as an independent expert, we continuously train our employees on the latest developments in legal issues. This enables us to develop an individual maintenance concept for each system that provides the operator with legal certainty," emphasizes Jürgen Dönges.
