SAF-Holland, an expert in axles and suspension systems, is expanding its digital expertise, automating manual processes and developing solutions for e-mobility applications. The commercial vehicle supplier was also present at a Nikola Motor Company customer event with a lightweight component: the FWAL-E aluminum fifth wheel is part of the Nikola One and Nikola Two vehicle concepts. "It makes us particularly proud that we are at the forefront not only among European truck manufacturers, who have been installing us ex works for a long time, but also in new developments with our SAF-Holland fifth wheels. The FWAL-E is the world's only fifth wheel coupling made of aluminum and once again proves our technological leadership," says Dr. Rainer-Rudolf Gärtner, Head of Truck Business Europe at SAF-Holland.

The forged aluminum fifth wheel is up to 55 kilos lighter than other couplings. The optional Weightsaver mounting system saves a further 35 kilos. FWAL-E is designed for fifth wheel loads of up to 20 tons and is available in three heights: 167, 197 and 219 mm.

Nikola Motor is currently attracting the attention of the transport industry with its electrically powered hybrid trucks: the fuel cell trucks Nikola One and Nikola Two are set to hit the North American market from 2020 with an output of 1,000 hp and a range of more than 1,600 kilometers, low fuel consumption and a high level of safety. The still young company is also developing the hydrogen-powered Nikola Tre. It should be on European roads from 2022 with a range of between 500 and 1,200 kilometers
