Rotterdam: Appeal to strengthen port infrastructure
Rotterdam/Netherlands, 13.06.2018 -

The President and Managing Director of the Port Authority
Allard Castelein, has spoken out in favor of strengthening the infrastructure of European ports. At the 15th ESPO Congress in Rotterdam from May 31 to June 1, 2018, Castelein called on the European Union to invest further in port and hinterland infrastructure.
Strengthening the economy and competitiveness
This should further strengthen Europe's economy and competitiveness. He called for additional funding to be made available for the expansion of this infrastructure in the European Union's next multi-year budget.
"A port is as strong as its hinterland connections," explained Castelein. "And a good infrastructure for connecting ports and port-industrial complexes is crucial for prosperity and employment in Europe."
Specifically, he mentioned the expansion of the Connecting European Facility (CEF) funding program for EU-wide projects relating to the energy transition. CEF (Connecting European Facility) is an EU transport funding program. The Port of Rotterdam Authority is currently receiving financial support for various infrastructure projects, including through the CEF program.
