Green shore power system for workboats

The Port of Rotterdam Authority and Eneco will install shore power systems in the Waalhaven so that Boskalis' moored workboats can run on green electricity instead of fossil fuels. There are two busy berths on the quay at this location.

The ships come to the service center for maintenance and preparation of offshore projects. The shore-side power plant is scheduled for completion by June 2023 and will generate two GWh of green electricity per year. The project is part of the joint shore-side power strategy of the Port of Rotterdam Authority and the City of Rotterdam, as well as Eneco's One Planet strategy, which aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2035. Currently, anchored ships are often still powered by generators to produce the necessary energy on board. The shore-side power supply will reduce previous emissions by up to 90 percent. Eneco and the Port of Rotterdam Authority are implementing the project via the joint venture Rotterdam Shore Power.
