Antwerp presents itself at the "Supernova" technology trade fair

The Port of Antwerp is presenting its vision of the future and current innovative projects at the new Supernova technology fair, which is taking place from September 27 to 30 in Antwerp's Eilandje port district. Visitors can discover the port of the future in a spectacular floating pavilion in the middle of the Bonaparte Dock, which the Antwerp Port Authority had built especially for this purpose. The latest technical developments will be on display in the MAS Port Pavilion, while the autonomous sounding boat "Echodrone" will be underway in the Bonaparte Dock.

Futuristic water pavilion

What will the port of the future look like? Digitalization and technological innovation will definitely play a formative role. At the Supernova, which is dedicated to the world of tomorrow under the motto "Tomorrow is unstoppable", the Port of Antwerp will give visitors a glimpse of the latest technological developments. The futuristic water pavilion, which floats on a pontoon in the middle of the Bonaparte dock, offers space for more than 350 visitors at a time and shows an amazing 360° surround screen video projection of the port of tomorrow.

"Technological innovation is essential to work together more effectively, safely and efficiently and to future-proof the port platform as the main engine of the Belgian economy. Permanent innovation is the driving force for further job growth and value creation in the entire region. At the same time, it will provide solutions to the challenges of climate change," says Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of Antwerp Port Authority.

One of these innovative developments that has already been implemented in real life is self-steering and self-navigating vessels. Visitors to Supernova can experience the autonomous sounding boat "Echodrone", which uses a unique, innovative cloud technology, in a live demonstration of its work in the Bonaparte dock. The Antwerp MAS Port Pavilion will be transformed into an 'innovation hub' for the first edition of the technology fair, showcasing the latest practical developments and innovations in the port.

"Our 360° surround screen video projection in the water pavilion is more than just an inspiring vision of the future," says Erwin Verstraelen, Chief Digital and Innovation Officer at Antwerp Port Authority. "On the contrary, many of these developments are already in use. Our ultimate goal is a port-wide digital nervous system through which we are continuously informed about processes in real time and can act directly. Using practical examples, we want to use Supernova to demonstrate to the public the pioneering role we play in innovation and digitalization."
