SMM: World's leading trade fair with a green agenda
With its leitmotif "Driving the maritime transition", SMM aims to show the maritime industry the way to low-emission shipping from September 8 to 11. The focus will be on environmentally friendly drives and alternative fuels.
"We cannot survive in the future without sustainability. We need to make the shipping business more sustainable and find out what the alternative fuel of the future is," says Kitack Lim, Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The shipping industry wants to take up this challenge. The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) recently launched a fund to promote research into alternative fuels. "The shipping industry alone cannot master the challenge - it is beyond our means. But we don't want to sit back and wait," says Alfred Hartmann, President of the German Shipowners' Association. Companies will be presenting sustainable products and concepts at SMM in "Green Propulsion" Hall A5 and along the 'Green Route'.
