Real-time information for port operations

Via the digital platform Pronto, shipping companies, terminals and nautical service providers in the port of Rotterdam share real-time information and can thus improve various processes. The quay can be better utilized, ships can moor with pinpoint accuracy and downtimes can be reduced on departure.

Container shipping company MSC has been using Pronto in the port of Rotterdam for some time now. "This is the future for us," say Bob den Ouden, Special Projects Manager at MSC and Erwin de Jong, Operations Manager: "Pronto provides a real-time overview of the data from the various members of the supply chain. If everyone involved has the same data at the same time, there is only one truth and there is no need to discuss data."

This enables those involved to make decisions together and more quickly. Pronto uses the functional definitions of the Port Call Optimization Taskforce, which has increased the quality of the information input. Sander de Jong, Consultant Operations at ECT, explains: "Ports are dynamic and always active areas where plans are constantly changing. As a terminal, we rely on updates that customers send us by phone or e-mail. But we don't always receive these messages in good time. Communication can sometimes be difficult, especially at night. Pronto can close precisely this gap."
