Hamburg Süd launches Remote Container Management

Hamburg Süd customers can now use Remote Container Management technology for their reefer container shipments. RCM monitors parameters such as temperature, relative humidity, oxygen and carbon dioxide concentration inside the reefer container in real time.

Customers can use this data to better control their supply chain, make it significantly more efficient and safer and thus leverage great potential for cost savings. In addition, the data from the cold treatment load sensors is available online.

All reefer containers in the joint Hamburg Süd and Maersk fleet have been equipped with the necessary technology. The past few months have been used for test shipments and the development of the digital customer interface. The result is an online application that can be used via PC, tablet or smartphone and displays all important parameters.

As soon as a registered customer logs in, they receive an overview of the containers they have booked with details of the port of departure and destination, container numbers or ship names. The "Journey Log" shows all important events of the container transport, such as delivery to the terminal or loading and unloading from the ship. Customers can view the data on the conditions within the container at any time and download it as an Excel list with just a few clicks or forward it directly, for example to the recipient of the goods.

In addition, customers are automatically informed when predefined parameters or limit values are reached. If critical limits are exceeded or not reached, the Hamburg Süd Operations team also receives an alarm message so that they can intervene accordingly and ensure the quality of the cargo.
