duisport submits building application for new trimodal container terminal
As part of the further development of logport VI, duisport has now prepared the legal basis for the construction of the container terminal and the internal access road for logports VI. The trimodal container terminal is an integral part of the new logistics concepts that duisport has developed for the site together with customers and partners. The aim is to reduce truck traffic by offering alternatives.
DIG, the joint infrastructure company of the City of Duisburg and duisport, is to be commissioned with the implementation of the development plan procedure for the second construction phase of the Walsum interchange. In addition, DIG will also be responsible for the construction of the first construction phase on behalf of the city. In this way, the City of Duisburg and duisport will create the joint basis for the rapid traffic connection of logport VI.
An important component of the infrastructure strategy for logport VI is the repair of the rail link between Oberhausen-West and the improvement of the water infrastructure at the new terminal in Walsum. Both the bridges and the level crossings will be adapted to the new requirements. As the main shareholder of Duisburger Infrastrukturgesellschaft (DIG), the City of Duisburg will now also formally award the planning contract for the second construction phase. duisport has already made considerable preliminary planning efforts to ensure that the transverse link can be realized by the planned completion date of 2024. To ensure this, DIG has agreed to also take on the construction of the first construction phase of the link.
"This alliance between the City of Duisburg and duisport for logport VI is a milestone for the infrastructural development of this site. We are certain that the solutions we have developed together with the city will lead to a real reduction in truck traffic. This brings us a big step closer to our goal of creating significantly more jobs on this attractive site than was previously the case with 300 employees in the paper mill," emphasizes Erich Staake, Chairman of the Executive Board of Duisburger Hafen AG. The new concept also ensures that Duisburger Hafen AG will be able to provide its customers with an efficient infrastructure that will enable it to focus on the alternative transportation routes of water and rail.
