Miebach designs distribution center for Barry Callebaut
Miebach Consulting is supporting the chocolate manufacturer Barry Callebaut in the planning and implementation of a new distribution center. The project is currently in the implementation phase. Completion is planned for summer 2021.
Barry Callebaut, manufacturer of cocoa and chocolate products, will centralize its global logistics activities in a new 60,000 square meter logistics complex in Lokeren, Belgium. The plans for the new distribution center have already been awarded the Foreign Investment Trophy as the best foreign investment in Flanders. Belgian real estate investor WDP will realize this special logistics facility together with a strong network of partners, including Miebach Consulting.
Miebach Consulting supported Barry Callebaut from strategy to implementation: first with a feasibility and make-or-buy study to evaluate the best option for the company's centralization plans, followed by developing the design of the new distribution center, conducting the tendering phase and investor selection. Miebach is currently supporting the implementation phase. Completion is planned for summer 2021.
The new logistics complex will be in line with Barry Callebaut's "Forever Chocolate" sustainability strategy - the facility will be built to the highest standards for sustainable development, will be energy neutral and will consist of the latest logistics technology, including a fully automated high-bay warehouse 40 meters high, it said.
By centralizing the storage of all packaged chocolate products, the efficiency of the flow of goods will be optimized. The new logistics site will be equipped with solar panels, geothermal energy, charging stations for electric vehicles and areas for e-bikes. In addition, the central warehouse has a direct connection to the port of Antwerp for worldwide distribution.
