"Logistics space is in greater demand due to the coronavirus pandemic"

What is driving the logistics real estate sector? Nikola Schröder, Deputy Head of Sales at Köster, spoke to materialfluss about important issues.

material flow: What is the best way for a logistician to approach the planning of a logistics site: What are the three most important questions to ask?

Nikola Schröder: In our experience, the following three questions should be considered, and full-service construction providers such as Köster provide individual advice at an early stage: 1. has the required space been calculated correctly, also with regard to expansion options for the next five to ten years? 2. is the location sufficiently well connected to the transport network? 3. can the building regulations at the location be met?

mfl: Sustainability is the order of the day - on, in front of and in the logistics center: why is that?

Schröder: The coronavirus pandemic has increased demand for logistics space, which has brought it further into the focus of local authorities and the general public. Logistics is often publicly associated with a large amount of space and a lot of traffic. The very specific implementation of sustainable aspects is not only sensible due to the structural characteristics of many logistics buildings, for example when it comes to using roof surfaces for PV systems or green façades. More and more players are also paying attention to additional feel-good factors in the social sphere, such as workplace quality, in order to increase the attractiveness for potential employees.
