Timocom founder becomes transport ambassador
IT entrepreneur Jens Thiermann, founder of the freight exchange Timocom, wants to use a US truck converted into a TV and podcasting studio to promote the industry's reputation on Germany's roads in the coming years through high-profile campaigns.
Jens Thiermann (59), has retired from the operational management of his company after 23 years in order to devote himself to new tasks. "It's time to give something back to the industry," says Thiermann, who handed over the business completely to his eldest son Tim (30) and Sebastian Lehnen (36), previously a member of the Executive Board, back in April.
"Countering the lack of understanding of logistics"
Thiermann now wants to promote the social reputation of the industry that has enabled him to become one of the most successful IT entrepreneurs in Germany. To this end, he has breathed new life into the association "Die Transportbotschafter e.V.", which he founded in 2012. The purpose of the association: to draw attention to the concerns of the transport and logistics industry in Germany with high-profile topics and events and "to counter the lack of understanding that the industry and its employees still encounter on the street", Thiermann: "We want to convey messages that reach everyone."
Freightliner Cascadia as a rolling studio
The vehicle for the "Everybody needs Logistics" message is a new Freightliner Cascadia. Imported from Atlanta and converted for registration in Europe, the truck presents itself as a rolling TV and podcasting studio in which interviews and snapshots of everyday life in the transport and logistics industry are produced. The Freightliner will also be used at job fairs and sporting events and become a stage for the industry.
