RIO-Box as standard in new MAN vehicles

Munich, 25.08.2017 -The RIO Box is now part of all brand-new MAN Euro 6 standard truck series in Europe as standard. MAN is thus laying the first building block for an infrastructure whose services will be able to network the entire transport and logistics industry in the future. Via the cloud-based technology solution RIO, customers will soon be able to centrally access a wide range of data from their fleet and use numerous services from the transport and logistics industry. The RIO box acts as an interface between the vehicle and the platform.
"Equipping our MAN trucks with the box is an important first step and brings us a step closer to our vision of a fully networked transport and logistics value chain. At the same time, it is the prerequisite for giving our customers access to digital value-added services. We are thus pioneers in the industry and are actively shaping the logistics of the future in the interests of our customers," says Joachim Drees, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus AG.
The RIO-Box is system- and manufacturer-independent. It is designed to be used in mixed fleets in particular. It will also be possible to retrofit the RIO Box to vehicles with an FMS interface in the future. Existing users of the MAN Telematics system have the option of transferring their collected data to RIO without loss.
"With RIO, MAN customers are among the digital frontrunners in the transport and logistics industry. In the future, we will not only provide our own services, but also OEM services and partner offers via RIO. We still have big plans!" announces Markus Lipinsky, CEO of RIO.
In addition to service providers, previous partners of the platform include the start-ups LoadFox, Evertracker and Synfioo. When developing the RIO Box, the highest standards were set for data protection and security. Customers decide for themselves whether they want to share data with RIO and benefit from the platform's digital solutions. A security server based in Germany and certified to European standards transmits the data encrypted by the box and then makes it available to customers via a platform. In addition to other functions, this enables the driver to analyze vehicle data such as engine speed, speed, fuel level or brake usage, for example. red
