Utility vehicles: Mercedes-Benz Trucks invests around 50 million euros in Wörth

Wörth am Rhein, 20.06.2018 - Mercedes-Benz Trucks is investing around 50 million euros in the expansion of the Development and Test Center in Wörth am Rhein. An additional office and workshop building, a new test bench building and parking spaces for test vehicles will be built by 2020.

At the moment, around 200 employees from vehicle testing and related testing areas are employed at the Development and Testing Center (EVZ); once the expansion work has been completed, this figure is expected to rise to around 350.

The EVZ serves as a competence center for the development work of Mercedes-Benz Trucks and plays an important role on the road to networked, automated and electric driving. On numerous rough tracks and different road profiles, which represent the roads of this world, the same conditions can be provided for test vehicles as can be found in different regions of the world.

With a symbolic ground-breaking ceremony, Prof. Dr. Uwe Baake (Head of Product Development Mercedes-Benz Trucks), Gerald Jank (Head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Operations), Dr. Ingo Ettischer (Site Manager Mercedes-Benz Wörth Plant), and Thomas Zwick (Chairman of the Works Council of the Mercedes-Benz Wörth Plant), together with Dr. Volker Wissing (Minister of Economic Affairs, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture of Rhineland-Palatinate), Dr. Fritz Brechtel (District Administrator of Germersheim) and Dr. Dennis Nitsche (Mayor of Wörth) to mark the official start of construction work. mm
