New model for coil transport

Fliegl expands portfolio

Steel transporter Siebel relies on a three-axle SDS 390 RoadRunner X-tra Long from Fliegl in the new coil version. With an internal length of 15,030 millimetres, the extra-long semi-trailer can safely and dryly accommodate even particularly long components and offers more space for coils stored in the 8,040 mm long coil trough.

For a haulage company that primarily transports steel products, the focus is on payload - or so you would think. But Arne Siebel from Spedition Siebel in Kreuztal explains: "Steel comes in all shapes and lengths, and we often transport trapezoidal sheets that are 14.7 meters long when they leave the factory. Round steel or beams are also often too long for a standard trailer, so the doors would have to remain open." However, this is prohibited, and the load could also get wet - which is bad for steel products that can quickly develop flash rust. Siebel has therefore ordered a three-axle SDS 390 RoadRunner X-tra Long from Fliegl. This is equipped with various load securing options: Load-Lock profiles for easy lashing strap attachment, plug-in lashing wheel adapters on each coil support, and 9 pairs of lashing eyes, each with a load capacity of five tons, are embedded in the coil trough area. A steel crash blocker on the floor of the bulkhead protects the driver in the event of an accident. To make it easier to load extra-long steel goods, a high-strength non-elastic roof beam has been installed, which practically does not sag, even when all stanchions are open to the full loading width.

Siebel also attached great importance to sealing the 30 mm thick loading floor. The freight forwarder has been equipping all trailers with lightweight rims for ten years, and the new X-tra Long also rolls on stylish and lightweight Alcoa Dura-Bright aluminum rims.
