Systalen® HDPE post-consumer recycled plastic for Frosch Senses shower gel bottles
The shower gel bottle made with Systalen® is the first application of 100% HDPE Post Consumer Recyclate (PCR) from the Yellow Bag in cosmetics packaging.
For cosmetic products, manufacturers are only allowed to place safe products on the market. To this end, a recyclate raw material and a treatment process were developed and the safety of the new packaging for use in cosmetic products (rinse off) was confirmed beyond doubt in a human toxicology report. During the preparation of the report, it became clear that the Werner & Mertz and Der Grüne Punkt team had already worked continuously on the problem areas associated with the reuse of used plastic during the development process.
In order to switch to 100% recyclate from the Yellow Bag, the material had to be technically suitable, odorless and harmless to health, whereby the odor factor plays a particularly important role for consumers when it comes to shower gels. To achieve this, a technology is used that removes these odors from the polyolefins using a thermal-physical process. With the use of PCR Systalen® in cosmetics packaging, it has been possible to make the leap into another major packaging application, as the toxicological and technical requirements have been met.
