In February 2020, the first joint logistics facility was put into operation with the aim of increasing operational efficiency, optimizing storage capacity and ensuring seamless warehouse and material flow management processes. To this end, Lyko's automated logistics center was equipped with the SSI Cuby shuttle system, ergonomic workstations, carton and container conveyor technology and ^WAMAS® logistics software. According to Rickard Lyko, CEO of Lyko, it was implemented at exactly the right time to support the rapidly increasing demand: "We are very satisfied with the solution from SSI Schaefer, which we put into operation in record time in February. With phase 1 of the automation, we have achieved the planned optimization and were thus able to cope with the extreme sales growth of 99 percent that we achieved in online retail in the second quarter."

Lyko plans to expand distribution to three more European markets at the end of 2020, with deliveries being made from the same logistics center in Vansbro, Sweden. It was therefore necessary to maximize storage capacity and expand the high-performance conveyor technology. SSI Schaefer was selected as the main contractor to ensure that delivery capability would keep pace with the ambitious expansion plans.

SSI Schaefer will install an automation solution with state-of-the-art technology for short throughput times and expand all functional areas - picking, packing, storage and shipping. The existing SSI Cuby shuttle system will be doubled with 45,000 storage locations and 150 shuttles. In addition to the automated solution, SSI Schaefer will integrate a platform and three storage lifts for storing small and medium-sized items.

The expansion of the logistics solution is in line with Lyko's focus on first-class customer service and high delivery capability. The new systems will be implemented during ongoing operations without interrupting processes at full capacity in the logistics center. The expansion is scheduled to be completed and put into operation before Black Friday 2021.
