Additional logistics space in the Ostalbkreis district
Spedition Hirsch builds 16,000 square meter logistics center
Ellwanger Spedition Hirsch GmbH is investing in the future and massively increasing its logistics capacities in the Swabian Ostalbkreis district on the edge of the European metropolitan region of Stuttgart.
The long-established service provider's new logistics center is being built on a 33,000 square meter site in the Neunheim/Neunstadt industrial estate in Ellwangen. The fourth-generation family-run company is investing eleven million euros in its new logistics center with a total floor space of 16,000 square meters. The ground-breaking ceremony took place at the end of August and construction work is now in full swing. The first of the two halls should be ready for occupancy in March/April 2019.
Flexible use of the halls
Free logistics space is not only rare in the automotive regions of Baden-Württemberg. "There is currently no free logistics space of this size between Ellwangen and Stuttgart," says developer Eugen Markus Hirsch with conviction. The entrepreneur is still flexible when it comes to the future use of the space. The two halls are each divided into three wings, which are connected by fire doors. There is space for shelves up to a height of eight meters, the span of the halls is 35 meters and there are no supports. There are six loading bays per wing, each equipped with load houses. Further gates at the ends of the halls can be accessed at ground level.
More than classic warehousing
All types of warehousing are possible in the logistics center, which is located directly on the A7 motorway. "For example, our customers can use partial areas from 2500 square meters as a central warehouse to bundle flows of goods and distribute their goods to the recipients," describes Hirsch. He could also imagine using it as a consignment warehouse or in the area of contract logistics. For example, manufacturing companies from the automotive sector could outsource some of their tasks to the service provider. The management of transport containers and loading equipment is also conceivable.
Spedition Hirsch has been rooted in Ellwangen for 125 years. Eugen Markus Hirsch currently manages the company and is supported by senior partner Eugen Hirsch and his wife Bettina. With son Hannes, the next generation is already in the starting blocks. New furniture logistics is an important pillar of the business. The company is one of 50 partners nationwide of the Hermes furnishing service, which delivers and assembles new furniture to end customers. A total of 30 vehicles and more than 60 employees work for the company.
