Groundbreaking ceremony for logistics center in Wörrstadt

The start of construction of an almost 20,500 m² logistics center was celebrated in the new industrial park on the A63 in Wörrstadt. The developer of the project is Panattoni, and the property is leased to Hellmann Worldwide Logistics from Osnabrück.

René Konrad (LIST Bau Bielefeld), Stefan Bohn (Panattoni), Ingo Kleinfelder (City of Wörrstadt), Thorsten Wilkening (Endress+Hauser), Volker Sauerborn (Hellmann Worldwide Logistics) and Markus Conrad (VG Wörrstadt) recently turned the symbolic first sod for the new logistics center in Wörrstadt. © Hellmann Worldwide Logistics

General contractor LIST Bau Bielefeld has already started civil engineering work and the installation of precast concrete elements on the site. "So far, the construction work is going well and we are optimistic that it will continue like this," explains René Konrad, Managing Director of LIST Bau Bielefeld.

Konrad, Stefan Bohn, Managing Director at Panattoni, Volker Sauerborn, COO Contract Logistics at Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, Thorsten Wilkening, Head of Global Transportation Network at Endress+Hauser, Ingo Kleinfelder, Mayor of Wörrstadt, and Markus Conrad, Mayor of the municipality of Wörrstadt, broke the symbolic ground for the new building to be constructed. At the ground-breaking ceremony, Bohn explained: "The fact that we were able to lease the Panattoni Park in Wörrstadt to Hellmann even before the start of construction underlines the high demand in the top logistics region of the Rhine-Main. I would therefore like to thank everyone involved for their contribution and look forward to the successful completion of the project, even under the current difficult conditions." Conrad added: "It is very satisfying to see that companies feel at home in commercial locations in our municipality and are investing in the future. I hope that Panattoni and the future tenant Hellmann Worldwide Logistics will become business partners at this structurally strong location, making a considerable contribution to economic activity and existence in the region."

Around 18,000 square meters of warehouse and technical space, as well as 770 square meters of office space and 1,540 square meters of mezzanine space will be built on the 38,000 square meter site in Wörrstadt. After completion, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics will support its customer Endress+Hauser, a Swiss manufacturer of measurement and automation technology, from Wörrstadt. In addition, the new building also offers capacity for cooperation with other clients. These can still incorporate their individual requirements for the new facility during the construction phase. This enables Hellmann Worldwide Logistics to offer its customers tailor-made concepts. "With the new, ultra-modern location, we are strengthening our presence in the Rhine-Main region and thus creating the spatial conditions for further strategic growth," emphasizes Sauerborn.

A special feature of the building project: the renewable raw material wood is used to construct the roof structure. "Wood has a much better CO2 balance than the alternatives. Every cubic meter of glulam binds around one ton of CO2. In Wörrstadt, we save around 635 tons of CO2 in this way," explains Konrad, Managing Director of LIST Bau Bielefeld. In July, the general contractor carried out further civil engineering work on the site for the future logistics center. Since the beginning of this month, LIST Bau Bielefeld has been erecting the supports for the new building. Assembly of the glulam beams for the roof structure can then begin. The building will then grow in height over the following months. The logistics center is scheduled for completion in March 2021.
