duisport receives Steinmeier

As part of his visit to the Ruhr region, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited the Port of Duisburg last Friday. duisport's CEO Erich Staake showed the Federal President around the logistics hub logport I.

50 companies on 265 hectares
A logistics area has been created on the former site of the Krupp steelworks in Rheinhausen. Today, around 50 companies employ over 5,000 people on the 265-hectare site. In total, the Port of Duisburg employs over 47,000 people either directly or indirectly.

Hub for trade with China
logport I is the start and end point of the China trains, 35-40 of which run weekly between the Port of Duisburg and a dozen destinations in China. duisport claims to be the most important Central European logistics hub for trade with China.

startport as a think tank
The second stop on President Steinmeier's visit to the port was the duisport subsidiary startport in the Werhahnmühle. The startup accelerator has developed into a platform for innovative ideas in the logistics sector over the past two years.

"We are delighted that we were able to personally inform the Federal President about our activities for the region. With logport I, the Port of Duisburg has given a strong boost to structural change in Duisburg and the Rhine-Ruhr region. And with startport, we are providing a breath of fresh air in the logistics sector from the Port of Duisburg," said Staake.
