Transporting tires ergonomically

According to the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, musculoskeletal disorders are the most common reason for incapacity to work in Germany. In practice, this affects employees in car workshops and car dealerships, among others,
for whom fetra fechtel now offers a solution.

According to the study, the causes of this development are mainly due to physical strain in everyday working life, for example when lifting and carrying heavy loads. Markus Fissenewert, owner of the Gütersloh car dealership Hentze, has found a solution: Tire trolleys from fetra. "The heavy lifting of the tires is no longer necessary, the employee can pick them up from the floor and transport them," he says. The Pietsch car dealership in Melle also relies on fetra trolleys and carts, both in the warehouse and in the workshop.
When it's tire changing season, workshops are very busy. This is when employee downtime is particularly noticeable. Tire trolleys and carts from fetra make an important contribution to providing employees with a healthy working environment. The welded tubular steel construction makes the transport equipment stable. Thanks to pre-treatment with shot blasting and subsequent powder coating, their surface is impact- and scratch-resistant as well as oil- and alkali-resistant - ideal conditions for use in car workshops and car dealerships. Thanks to the spreader mounts, which are activated by pushing the handlebars open and closed, the tires and wheels can be moved quickly and, above all, in a back-friendly manner. Up to eight tires, each with a diameter of 450 to 750 millimetres or up to 200 kilograms, can be transported from A to B without difficulty. "The fetra devices are very robust and also easy to operate. This enables ergonomic working and speeds up processes," says Erik Heinen, Head of Parts Service at Autohaus Pietsch.

Protected from incorrect loads
In the warehouse, called the "tire hotel" at the Pietsch car dealership, the fetra tire trolleys show their strengths. Around 3,200 sets of tires are professionally stored there and are regularly placed on the trolleys to be transported to the adjacent workshop and from there back to the tire hotel. The advantage is that the trolleys can hold up to four sets of tires. This saves time-consuming journeys. The tire carriers are variably adjustable in 150 mm increments and can therefore accommodate almost any model and size. The solid nature of the fetra TPE castor, with which the trolleys are equipped as standard, ensures low starting, rolling and swivel resistance. Users do not have to exert excessive force, work ergonomically and are optimally protected against incorrect loads and their consequences. Because, as Markus Fissenewert puts it in a nutshell: "Changing tires is a back-breaking job."
