Pocket sorter: goods transported autonomously to their destination

TGW Logistics installs a SmartPocket system for the mail order company Personalshop in Polling, Tyrol. Its unique selling point, which sets it apart from conventional designs, is that SmartPocket uses autonomous mobile robots instead of a drag chain. The technology is therefore set to set standards in terms of efficiency, reliability and scalability.

Servus Handels- und Verlags-Gesellschaft operates as an international retailer of branded clothing and accessories under the Personalshop brand. The company sells its products via online stores, catalogs and stores and employs more than 400 people. In addition to Austria, Personalshop is also active in Germany and Switzerland. In 2024, the omnichannel specialist generated sales of 275 million euros and served more than 2 million customers.

In 2018, TGW Logistics implemented a highly automated fulfillment center for Personalshop in Polling (Tyrol). Due to strong growth, the mail order company has now decided to expand in order to be able to supply online customers and stores quickly and reliably in the future. The clear requirement: optimum performance in order processing with a 70 percent higher volume, high reliability and a low initial investment. SmartPocket's technological concept was convincing in the award process - as was its cost-effectiveness and short implementation time.

Reduced maintenance, low energy consumption

The bags move along a 2.5 kilometer long rail network. No moving parts are installed in the rails or in the crossing areas. This set-up significantly reduces maintenance requirements and minimizes energy consumption.

The bags are automatically opened and ergonomically staged, with each bag receiving exactly one item. A camera automatically detects whether the bag has been loaded - eliminating the need for a separate scanning process. The scope of delivery includes loading and unloading stations, conveyor technology and additional carton erectors and sealers. The specialists from TGW Logistics are also responsible for the IT integration into the existing system.
