With its already proven bag sorting system, Dematic now also enables the automatic unloading of bags. A special opening and closing mechanism allows the bag to be opened at any point in the system.

Pocket discharges per hour increased sixfold
The result: according to the company, the number of bags unloaded per hour can be increased six-fold compared to a manual solution. With this automation solution, Dematic aims to meet the high demands of fulfillment and returns processing for e-commerce companies in particular.

"We are closing a gap in automation systems"
In returns processing, the automated hanging system on roller adapters is used to store, sort and buffer hanging and flat-packed items and cartons. The bags are loaded automatically via belt conveyors. "With automatic bag unloading, we are closing a gap in existing automation systems and significantly reducing the workload during fulfillment and returns processing," says Klaus Hiesgen, Vice President Overhead Systems Center of Excellence at Dematic.

Bags modified, special mechanism developed
Dematic has modified the bags and developed a special opening and closing mechanism to enable the bags to be unloaded automatically. "Our patented solution offers a combination of clip and bayonet closure and is unique in this form. The bag can be opened at any point and emptied fully automatically," explains Hiesgen.

Integration into existing systems possible
After unloading, the goods can be transported on a chute or a belt conveyor, or they can be loaded directly into a container. The newly developed opening and closing mechanism can also be integrated into existing bag sorting systems without great effort. It is also possible to combine the new bags with closed bags in one system.
