Reusable container solution receives award
In collaboration with Schoeller Allibert, the optician chain Apollo has developed a reusable container for supplying its stores. Apollo has now received the pro-K award for this solution.
When empty, the load carrier can be returned easily and cost-effectively. The highlight is a new clipping mechanism. This saves the company up to 100 tons of cardboard waste and will reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 96% in the long term.
Previously, Apollo supplied its more than 1,000 stores exclusively with cardboard boxes. This resulted in more than 100 tons of cardboard waste per year, which had to be disposed of. Together with plastics specialist Schoeller Allibert, the company developed a machine-compatible reusable container that makes shipping cartons superfluous, saves up to 96 percent of carbon dioxide emissions and can be completely recycled at the end of its service life. This solution also impressed the jury of the pro-K Industrieverband Halbzeuge und Konsumprodukte aus Kunststoff. It presented the container with the pro-K award 2020.
The basis for the new container is the Clever Move Box (CMB) from the Schoeller Allibert portfolio. The CMB with closed walls measures 400 x 300 x 240 millimetres and can be folded to a height of just 52 millimetres when empty. It has two handles on the narrow sides and can be sealed to prevent access from outside. However, the highlight of the load carrier is that it can be clipped onto other containers and thus returned cost-effectively and without additional effort. This creates a form-fitting unit for CEP service providers, which is then counted as one parcel.
Previously, there were only 1:1 solutions for reusable containers. This means that one load carrier was dispatched and one was transported back. This resulted in significantly higher transportation costs for the empties. With the volume-reducible, machine-compatible reusable plastic container from Schoeller Allibert, transports at a ratio of 1:2 or 1:3 can also be realized.
