University researches delivery robots for the country
How useful is the use of self-driving delivery robots in rural areas? Researchers in Cottbus want to find out.
Remote villages often have the same problem: there is no supermarket and the pharmacy is a long way away. The university in Cottbus now wants to investigate the use of autonomous delivery robots in rural areas.
To this end, municipalities and partners are being sought with whom the project can be jointly launched, as announced by the BTU. The Freiberg University of Mining and Technology in Saxony is also involved in the project.
Delivery of food, medication or post
The new research project is scheduled to run until summer 2027. The aim is to analyze the potential of autonomous delivery systems specifically for rural areas in Lusatia and to develop innovative solutions, according to the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU). "We are particularly interested in the question of how these systems can contribute to the provision of public services, for example by delivering food, medicines or post," said Sylvio Simon, Chair of Machine Tools at BTU.
