Exoskeleton: strength to put on
Automation specialist Comau is expanding its portfolio of wearable robots with a new exoskeleton. The wearable system reduces muscle strain by up to 50 percent.
Weighing less than three kilograms, the MATE-XT GO exoskeleton from Comau supports the arms and shoulders during repetitive work and, in particular, overhead work and, according to the manufacturer, can be put on in 30 seconds and taken off in 10 seconds.
Certified as category II personal protective equipment (PPE), MATE-XT GO is suitable for regulated working environments. The exoskeleton reduces muscle strain and the subjective feeling of fatigue by up to 50 percent. The aim is to improve comfort, endurance and posture throughout the working day without restricting natural movements.
The completely passive system is low-maintenance and designed for low life cycle costs. It is equally suitable for industrial companies and SMEs. Areas of application include manufacturing, construction, logistics, agriculture and trade.
MATE-XT GO was developed in collaboration with IUVO, a spin-off of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, in which Comau holds a majority stake. The system offers eight levels of support for both arms and adapts to the physiological movements of the shoulder. "This success is an important step in our vision of human-centered automation," said Marco Manavello, Chief Industrials Operations Officer.
