Trilux implements lighting concept for distribution center

In March, the first part of the new European Distribution Centre (EDC) "New Logic VI" was handed over to Dokvast, a client specializing in logistics solutions, in Son, the Netherlands. Trilux is the overall lighting contractor for the project.

"Thanks to this partnership, the end user receives an extremely user-friendly lighting solution with a holistic service," emphasize Jos Klanderman, Managing Director of Dokvast and Willem Dammers, Managing Director of Trilux Benelux. Sustainability, future-oriented construction and customer focus are the most important starting points of Dokvast's vision. "All our buildings are realized on the basis of teamwork and partnership," explains Klanderman. The plans for the EDC were based on the requirements for the BREEAM-NL "Outstanding" rating, a method for assessing the sustainability of buildings. This makes the project one of the five most sustainable distribution centers in the Netherlands.

Intelligent building through sensors

The construction of New Logic VI (general contractor was the construction group Heembouw) took nine months and was delivered ready for use. The 45,000 m² hall can be extended by a further 30,000 m² at the request of the tenant Rhenus Logistics. The intelligence of the building lies in the sensors that monitor the individual rooms and transmit the individual data to Dokvast's Building Dashboard. The dashboard is a self-developed building management system with which energy consumption, occupancy and maintenance requirements can be read in real time. If a maintenance requirement is identified in this way, Dokvast arranges repairs and maintenance via its partners. "The systems and building components can be flexibly adapted and communicate with each other. The status of the building systems can be queried at any time to the minute via an app and the customer can regulate the light intensity themselves according to their wishes. A combination of motion sensors, daylight control and dimmers is used for this purpose. They can all be controlled with the iPad. This is the Internet of Things."

Flexibly adjustable illuminance

"Customized connectivity is the key to this future-oriented lighting solution," says Managing Director Willem Dammers. "The basis of the Trilux solution consists of high-quality LED strip lights for warehouses that are controlled by a lighting management system. Our E-Line LED strip light has been equipped with intelligent sensors and is connected to a network. Because more power than necessary has been installed, the LED lighting can be dimmed down to a suitable light intensity at any time. This extends the service life and makes the installation flexible and future-proof. The high light output leads to greater visual comfort for the employees in the hall. When the system is set to full power, the artificial light resembles daylight."
