Toyota Material Handling: Swarm Automation Storage
Swarm Automation Storage is a flexible, high-density storage system that works without aisles between the shelves. The system has been nominated as materialfluss product of the year 2025 in category 1: Storage and picking technology.
Swarm Automation Storage is a total solution that combines three Toyota solutions: it combines shuttle racking systems, automated reach trucks and intelligent software.
The solution is designed for palletized goods and uses fully automated Toyota reach trucks of the type BT Reflex RAE Autopilot to store load carriers and goods in special channels of a racking system. Radio shuttles transport the goods within these storage channels, while driverless transport systems take over the transportation between the channels and the repositioning of the shuttles. It is suitable for large-volume stock, storage of end products, replenishment storage at picking stations and for maximizing buffer and storage space in high-traffic areas. Swarm Automation Storage leads to an optimized storage density of up to 80 % and increased goods throughput.
