Christmas heavy goods transport
Universal Transport brings Christmas tree to the Brandenburg Gate
Berlin's most famous Christmas tree has been where it belongs since November 25: in the middle of Pariser Platz at the Brandenburg Gate. Once again this year, the heavy-duty specialist Universal Transport was responsible for the punctual delivery.
The truck carrying the 17.5-metre-high, 4.5-tonne coastal fir tree from the Thuringian Forest reached its destination at midday on 25 November.
Large, conical and accessible by crane
The requirements for growth and appearance are high: it should be 16 to 23 meters tall, grow straight with conical needles and, of course, be free of wood defects. Another important criterion is the location. It must be easily accessible for the heavy-duty crane and low-loader so that the tree can be loaded directly. This time, a privately owned Abies Grandis, or large coastal fir, from Birkenhügel in Thuringia met all the criteria. On November 23, the 50-year-old tree was felled and professionally secured on the low-loader.
Time-consuming loading
The transport to Berlin then started in the morning hours of November 25. The specialists from Universal Transport needed around four hours to cover the 300 kilometers. "So that the fir tree can later shine in all its conical needle splendor and no damage is caused by the airstream, its branches are carefully tied up by the specialists from our partner 'Tannen Wulf'. As this takes a certain amount of time, the tree is already loaded on Saturday," explains Lars Radzik, a member of the technical field service team at Universal Transport. "We have been transporting the Christmas trees for various Christmas markets in Thuringia and the most famous tree in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin for several years now. It fills me with pride every year to be responsible for ushering in the Christmas season by transporting the symbol of Christmas to this historic and well-known place."
