Fewer journeys, more efficiency
Toni Hotz Transporte now on the road with another Giga Liner
Alexander and Toni Hotz from Offenbach an der Queich recently took delivery of their second long truck in Werlte. The freight forwarder Toni Hotz Transporte had already been using a long truck from the Giga Liner series in recent years and Alexander and Toni Hotz are delighted with their first experience. "As we mainly transport cardboard packaging, which weighs very little, we can carry 56 percent more load per journey with the long truck and still not exceed the 40-ton limit," emphasized Alexander Hotz.
Four times a day, the Giga Liner, a combination of a 2-axle Mega Liner with steering axle and a 2-axle central chassis with swap body, sets off on the defined, approximately 62 km route between Offenbach and Pirmasens, which amounts to around 2,500 km per week. Alexander and Toni Hotz calculate that fewer journeys and more cargo lead to CO₂ savings of at least 20 percent.
The two entrepreneurs were also pleasantly surprised by the excellent cornering characteristics of the long truck, the weight distribution and the braking distance. As the braking force is distributed over several axles, the braking distance of the vehicle is significantly reduced. As measurements by the Federal Highway Research Institute show, the braking distance for a long truck at 80 km/h is 36 meters. In comparison, a standard road train needs 44 meters to come to a standstill. "And last but not least, the long truck also scores points in terms of ground pressure; roads and bridges are less stressed thanks to the distribution of weight across several axles," says Toni Hotz.
On behalf of the Krone team, Regional Sales Manager Markus Gemmel expressed his thanks for the friendly and trusting business relationship that has now existed for almost 25 years. "There are numerous arguments in favor of the long truck, especially in times of the current climate debate, and we are very pleased that Toni Hotz Transporte is benefiting so much from the use of the Giga Liner."
