Swap train: Two instead of three swap body bridges

The introduction of long trucks opens up interesting opportunities for trailer development. Fliegl wants to exploit these with the Swap Train.

The currently adapted legislation allows a total length of 25.25 meters. Fliegl is increasing the transport capacity from two to three swap body bridges with a train combination. The result: What could previously be transported in principle with three BDF trains including three drivers is now handled by two type 3 long trucks with one driver less.

Fliegl's patented steering dolly combines the BDF motorized trailer and the container chassis, which specializes in swap bodies, into a single towing unit. In the interests of maintenance and trouble-free operation, the manufacturer has dispensed with electronics or hydraulics; the dolly is fully mechanical. This results in a considerable weight saving - the dolly weighs just 1300 kilograms. The first production vehicles are already successfully on the road.

For the logistics company, the reduction in workload is reflected in more efficient driver deployment and, according to the company, cost amortization within a year, lower fuel consumption and the achievement of higher revenues with almost identical expenditure.
