Renault Trucks Germany focuses on electric trucks
From spring 2022, Renault Trucks Germany will only offer the Renault Trucks D and D Wide models for distribution transport as battery-electric vehicles.
D and D Wide with diesel engines will no longer be sold. The basis for this decision is both the proven market maturity of the trucks, which have been in series production since 2020, and the subsidy of up to 80 percent of the additional costs of an e-truck compared to the diesel equivalent. This subsidy program is intended to make the total cost of ownership of an e-truck increasingly attractive. Consequently, this strategic orientation only applies to the German market.
"We are announcing that we are discontinuing the sale of 16-tonne to 26-tonne diesel trucks from the D and D Wide series on the German market and are focusing entirely on electric vehicles. What does this mean in concrete terms? It means that all Renault Trucks D and D Wide that we sell on the German market from spring 2022 will be electric," says Frederic Ruesche, Managing Director of Renault Trucks Germany.
Series production since 2020
Renault Trucks has been producing the electric Z.E. models of the Renault Trucks D and D Wide in series since the beginning of 2020. The battery-electric vehicles are already being used throughout Europe in urban and regional distribution transport, in municipal applications and even for light construction site transport. The market maturity allows Renault Trucks to realign its strategy for the distribution segment in the German market and to concentrate 100 percent on electric vehicles from now on.
The funding program of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) for commercial vehicles with alternative drive systems provides for funding of up to 80 percent of the additional costs of an electric truck compared to the corresponding diesel truck.
