Netherlands: New LNG incentive system
A new LNG incentive system for LNG has been announced in the Netherlands. The system is intended to support logistics companies that want to opt for the fuel
The system provides for compensation of 18.7 euro cents per kilo of LNG from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2021. When the system comes into force, the 18.7 euro cents will be charged directly in the pump price by all filling station owners and operators in the Netherlands.
Various incentives from neighboring countries, such as the 0% excise duty rate on LNG in Belgium and the toll exemption in Germany, are already leading to a sharp increase in LNG trucks. There are currently 27 LNG plants in the Netherlands. Some of them are located near the border with Belgium and Germany, ideally situated for international transportation.
"A large proportion of our customers at the Roosendaal and Venlo LNG filling stations come from the European countries of Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain and Poland. We hope that this LNG incentive system, in combination with our conveniently located tank terminals for international transport, will make the switch to LNG as an alternative fuel more attractive. The introduction of this system is a further step in the right direction towards sustainable transport. In addition to the environmental benefits, it now also provides a positive business case," says Jan Willem Drijver, Managing Director of PitPoint.LNG.
