Mercedes-Benz Vans hands over pilot vehicle to UPS
Mercedes-Benz Vans has handed over a pilot vehicle to the parcel service UPS at the IAA Commercial Vehicles. The special conversion for the delivery service is being modified by Spier GmbH & Co.
Six years after the handover of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter specially tailored for the delivery service, the prototype of the successor model was handed over to Carlton Rose, president of global fleet maintenance and engineering UPS, at the IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hanover. The "key handover" took place at the stand of body manufacturer specialist Spier, which had already adapted the predecessor model to the requirements of UPS. "The long-standing collaboration with Mercedes-Benz Vans and Spier has resulted in a concept vehicle that meets the delivery industry's need for good ergonomics and high load capacity in a cost-effective way," said Carlton Rose, president of global fleet maintenance and engineering UPS. The proven drive concept of rear and all-wheel drive has been supplemented by a new front-wheel drive. This increases the payload by 50 kilograms compared to rear-wheel drive. An 80 millimeter lower loading sill also makes loading and unloading easier. Safety systems such as the active brake assistant and the driving light assistant ensure greater safety and driving comfort. The model also has an automatic gearbox and an electric parking brake for improved ergonomics. The latter also enables direct access from the driver's seat to the load compartment.
