Here we go: start of production of the new truck generation from Volvo Trucks
"We are very pleased that our new generation of trucks will soon reach our valued customers. All four truck models have been developed with a strong focus on improving the driver environment, safety and vehicle productivity and are more efficient than their predecessors," says Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks.
The Volvo FM and FMX models have a new cab with modified A-pillars. This gives drivers up to an additional cubic meter more space in the interior and an improved lighting situation in the cab. This also increases visibility of the surrounding road traffic. This can be further improved for the driver by a camera in the mirror base on the passenger side. It offers a more complete side view and is shown on an additional display in the dashboard. Up to eight cameras can be installed as an option.
Other important updates include the new driver interface and the optional adaptive headlights, which provide even more safety on the Volvo FH and FH16. The new Volvo FH and FM can also be tailored to save fuel and CO2, for example the Volvo FH with I-Save technology.
"We are proud of these four new models, which will contribute to both increased safety on the roads and a further reduction in environmental impact. The launch of new ranges requires specialist engineers and great teamwork throughout the organization, including our suppliers. This production launch is special for everyone involved, given the challenging year we have just been through," comments Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks.
Volvo Trucks' commitment to sustainable transportation solutions is also visible in the new models. They have been developed with electrified powertrains in mind, with production set to start in 2022. "This means that the transition to fossil-free transport will be seamless for our customers in the future, as they can continue to drive their favorite Volvo Trucks model," says Roger Alm.
The trucks will initially be manufactured at Volvo Trucks' production facilities in Gothenburg in Sweden, Ghent in Belgium and Kaluga in Russia. The assembly plant in Tuve, Gothenburg, will start production in March 2021. "We have been preparing for this launch for a long time and are working together to build great trucks. The Tuve plant team is looking forward to delivering these brand new models to our customers in the highest quality," explains Martin Folin, acting VP Operations at the Tuve plant.
